BE WTR my friend, what did Bruce Lee really mean?

Everybody knows Bruce Lee. The kung fu master who starred in 70’s martial arts films and died at 32 from an allergic shock caused by headache medicine. Despite his early passing he managed to leave behind a long list of famous quotes. “Be water, my friend” is maybe the most famous one. But what did he really mean, and why does it go so well with what we do?
The quote is actually much longer in its full format. And it is, truth be told, a bit fluffy. Sprinkled with that Asian wisdom that is so popular among young backpackers, midlife yoga lovers and owners of incense-smelling giftshops. It reads:
“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
Bruce Lee wasn’t at all wrong. You should try to adapt and change to whatever life puts in front of you. Just like water takes any form it needs. In the end, it will be easier, and it will bring you more peace. One can also read his quote with the glasses of our brand: BE WTR. It makes a lot of sense. We are finding new ways, recreating and innovating the forms of classical water to reach a better taste and texture.
Was our name inspired by the quote? Not exactly. Our name comes from “to be” and how water is the foundation of all life. Something Bruce Lee surely would have agreed on. So, stay hydrated and BE just what you want to be.
